Claude’s 950-Agent Swarm Finds a CRISPR-Like DNA System
In Brief: Anthropic said Claude discovered a previously unknown enzyme system in bacteria-infecting viruses that resembles CRISPR. About 950 Claude agents found it in 21 hours, and Anthropic calls the system ART.
The Details:
The agents sifted through 200,000+ reverse transcriptases (enzymes that copy RNA into DNA), using 210 million tokens to narrow roughly 3,500 candidate systems down to 20 finalists.
One agent spotted a repeating DNA pattern beside an unusual enzyme — the same kind of clue that first exposed CRISPR — and lab tests confirmed the pattern produces small RNAs.
Anthropic says it doesn’t yet know what ART does, and human scientists ran all of the lab work.
Take Away:
Sorting through 200,000+ enzymes in 21 hours shows what agent swarms can do when pointed at a huge dataset. Whether ART becomes a useful tool is unknown, but the split of agents in the data and humans at the bench is a template other research groups can copy.
Google’s Gemini TTS Designs Voices From a Text Prompt
In Brief: Google launched Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS and Flash-Lite TTS, text-to-speech models that create custom voices from plain-language descriptions and replicate a speaker’s voice from a 30-second sample.
The Details:
Flash TTS designs voices in 100+ languages, with 2,000+ ready-made voices and line-by-line direction for pacing, laughs, and sighs.
Voice replication needs a 30-second sample plus verbal consent from the voice owner, and all generated audio carries SynthID watermarking and C2PA credentials.
Developers can try both models today in the Gemini API and Google AI Studio, while everyone else gets Gemini Notebook (Flash TTS) and Google Vids (Flash-Lite TTS) — though neither is offered in the EEA, UK, India, Illinois, or Texas.
Take Away:
Designing a voice used to mean picking from a preset list. A text description is now enough, which lowers the bar for podcasts, narration, and app voices, and the consent check and watermarking arrive built in as voice cloning draws scrutiny.

Stripe Rebuilds Checkout So AI Agents Can Buy Things
In Brief: Stripe added WebMCP tools to Checkout, letting AI agents call structured functions like get_order_summary and fill_payment_form instead of parsing a page’s HTML.
The Details:
In Stripe’s tests, agents finished checkout 39% faster — about 60 seconds saved — with 42% fewer tokens and 38% fewer tool calls than a baseline of roughly 1.8M tokens and 2.5+ minutes per purchase.
Stripe uses progressive tool disclosure, exposing only the tools that fit the current checkout step, and builds on accessibility patterns and state management that developers already have.
The tools now run across all Stripe Checkout UIs, which serve 7.8M businesses, and developers can start with Stripe’s agentic commerce docs.
Take Away:
Agents that scrape pages to check out burn time and tokens, and structured tools make buying by AI cheaper and more reliable. Because the feature ships inside Stripe Checkout, agent-ready payments reach a huge merchant base by default.
